Last month the challenge was put forth: We say CNN always errs on the right, but can we prove it? A few examples were posted, but CNN was thoughtful enough to keep the discrepancies coming.
The latest comes in the case of Dick Cheney shooting a 78-year old man in the heart. There is so much fodder here it makes me giddy, but what's curious is the fact CNN seems to be the only news agency that did not notice any problems with the VP's story.
A day or two after the shooting, I noticed a story on Yahoo news:
It seems that Cheney and his friends had denied having any booze during the day. Then they admitted they had some at lunch. They first blamed Cheney's friend, Harry Whittington, saying he didn't follow proper protocol. Then Cheney did an about face and admitted it was his fault. After the shooting, they claimed Whittington was "just fine", which was interesting seeing as he was taken to intensive care by helicopter. Also, Cheney didn't even have his hunting papers in order, as was claimed by the White House.
I checked CNN. There was no mention of this story. A search of their site for the word "discrepancies" revealed nothing. A search for "Cheney" gave the following results:
Not a thing. In fact, #2 seems to be almost eerily pro-Cheney.
I wanted to make sure that Yahoo hadn't jumped the gun. They hadn't. The following news agencies are just a few of the very many who reported these discrepancies:
A search on CNN still reveals nothing.
